About the position

The SLD System Integration and Analysis Manager - Avionics at Blue Origin plays a crucial role in the Lunar Permanence business unit, focusing on the development of sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo to the Lunar Surface. This position combines technical leadership with functional management, overseeing a team of systems engineers dedicated to ensuring the safety and optimization of the Crewed Lunar Lander design. The role emphasizes collaboration, continuous improvement, and adherence to high standards in a dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage direct reports' professional development including hiring, performance reviews, and coaching.
  • Coordinate process development and continuous improvement initiatives within the Lunar Permanence business unit.
  • Promote and embody Blue Origin leadership principles and culture.
  • Negotiate between conflicting interests to optimize spacecraft design.
  • Guide program development in system integration, interface management, and vehicle performance measurement.
  • Break down technical challenges into actionable steps for team members.
  • Create and manage interface definitions between subsystems and ensure configuration supports design reviews and milestones.
  • Ensure coordination of design changes and impacts across subsystems.
  • Support and present at major gated reviews.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical subject area.
  • Deep technical knowledge of one or more spacecraft subsystems (Avionics, Software, GNC, Electrical Power, etc.).
  • Highly knowledgeable of systems engineering practices, integration processes, and mission/safety critical systems.
  • Strong analytical skills to solve complex systems problems.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. degree in engineering or related technical subject area.
  • 2+ years managing technical teams and/or leading functional groups.
  • 8+ years of experience in spacecraft systems, including Avionics.
  • Familiarity with agile project management.
  • Experience with human-rated spacecraft.
  • Experience developing hardware through all phases of the development lifecycle.
