About the position

The position involves contributing to the development of spacecraft thermal control systems within Blue Origin's Lunar Transportation business unit. The role requires working collaboratively with a diverse team of engineers to ensure the successful transport of crew and cargo to the Lunar surface, focusing on thermal components from conception through testing and integration. The engineer will engage with NASA and partners on the Human Landing System program, playing a crucial role in the design and development of lunar landers.

Responsibilities

  • Define and develop spacecraft thermal control systems.
  • Work on thermal components from conception through development, testing, and integration.
  • Collaborate with NASA and National Team Partners on the Human Landing System program.
  • Contribute to the Thermal Hardware group for multiple generations of landers.
  • Develop component specifications, test plans, and execution reports.
  • Conduct occasional thermal analysis and make/buy decisions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical, aerospace, or similar engineering.
  • 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Solid understanding of thermal and fluid fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with common spacecraft thermal hardware including flex lines, tubing, and fittings.
  • Familiarity with fluid pump and/or valve design.
  • Demonstrated experience building and testing hardware (components and/or assemblies).
  • Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation process.
  • Experience with CAD software, preferably Creo.
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. or PhD degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 8 years of relevant aerospace experience.
  • Experience in designing fluid routing systems and defining specifications for flexlines, hoses, and fittings.
  • Solid understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware such as pumps, cold plates, accumulators, valves, heat exchangers, etc.
  • Design for manufacturability and assembly experience for fluid loop hardware.
  • Vendor technical management experience.
  • Experience specifying and evaluating fluid systems to meet mechanical and structural design requirements.
  • Experience maturing a design from requirements definition through hardware delivery.
  • Familiarity with Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint.
