About the position

The position at Blue Origin involves contributing to the development of spacecraft thermal control systems as part of the Lunar Permanence business unit. The role requires collaboration with NASA and other partners to support the Human Landing System program, focusing on the sustainable transport of crew and cargo to the Lunar surface. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic environment, coordinating engineering integration activities and ensuring effective communication among teams to achieve project goals.

Responsibilities

  • Define and develop spacecraft thermal control systems.
  • Collaborate with Lunar Thermal Hardware engineers to deliver thermal hardware components and systems.
  • Support component design, subsystem integration activities, and testing coordination.
  • Define project scope and schedule in early project phases.
  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders and manage changes in later project phases.
  • Resolve unexpected problems during component or subsystem builds and testing activities.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for communication and organizational issues.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical, aerospace, or similar engineering.
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Solid understanding of thermal and fluid fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with pumped fluid loop hardware or passive thermal hardware.
  • Experience serving as a Project Engineer or Project Manager.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusting and effective working relationships.
  • Working knowledge of configuration management principles and practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. or PhD degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 8+ years of relevant aerospace experience.
  • Familiarity with JIRA and Agile project management.
  • Experience with creating tools for documentation and tracking work.
  • Experience leading a small technical team.
  • Experience with Primavera P6 or other GANTT-style project management tools.
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA).
  • Vendor technical management experience.
  • Experience solving a variety of thermal problems.
  • Familiarity with Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint.
