About the position

Provides clinical and professional leadership and ensures smooth operations of the department. Provides direction and supervision to staff for day-to-day direct-patient care consistent with the objectives of Rehabilitation Services Department. Maintains a high level of quality and safe patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Leaders in the development, implementation, and evaluation of new or existing departmental standards, procedures, programs, and processes to ensure quality care, and to promote patient referrals.
  • Assists Leaders in compliance with hospital customer service and performance improvement programs, peer review, and in-services.
  • Collaborates with leadership in overseeing the environment of care in compliance with all standards for safety, risk management, and infection control as required by the Hospital, outside enforcement agencies, and according to Regulatory Standards.
  • Responsible for personal and professional growth and expertise by remaining current with state and national associations, professional trends, licensure, and evidence-based practice.
  • Assists Leaders in managing staff including recruiting, hiring, orientation, training, coaching, professional growth, development plan, performance improvement, and performance appraisal.
  • Assists Leaders in planning, organizing & overseeing daily clinical operations. Adjusts staffing plan to meet department needs and identifies improvement opportunities for operational efficiency.
  • Assists Leaders in guiding teams in evidence-based practice initiatives including implementing clinical practice guidelines and protocols. Coordinates and supports in the development of initial and annual clinical competencies.
  • Responsible for prioritization of access to care for inpatient and/or outpatient services.
  • Assists Leaders in resolving patient complaints or related issues. Follows up as needed with key stakeholders for conflict resolution and service recovery.
  • Assists Leaders in program development or expansion as a clinical SME aligned to strategic or operational goals. Provides guidance on programmatic issues related to services & programs.
  • Assists Leaders in establishment of service line & departmental standards, monitors metrics, provides training, and ensures compliance of hospital customer services program.
  • Assists Leaders in performance improvement process including the preparation, analysis & submission of required reports.
  • Assists Leaders in preparing monthly financial variance reports & productivity analysis.
  • Evaluates, re-evaluates, and performs general and specialty evaluations according to departmental standards. Administers formal and/informal assessments and documents results.
  • Completes a treatment plan of care with appropriate functional, realistic, and measurable treatment goals. Incorporates caregiver/patient education into the plan of care and treatment.
  • Implements patient treatment based upon medical, clinical, functional, and observational findings. Revises plan of care as necessary.
  • Mentors and serves as a resource to clinical staff in the provision of direct patient care.
  • Initiates discharge planning considering medical, social, financial, and personal issues of the patient/caregiver. Prepares discharge when maximum potential or benefit of therapy is reached.
  • Maintains active and supportive communication with the patient, caregiver(s), and others concerned regarding progress, problems, home programs, and other issues related to the therapeutic process.
  • Maintains productivity standards set by the Leader. Maintains clinically productive time in direct patient care 50% of work hours/week based on center staffing needs.
  • Records daily patient documentation, statistics, and charges (when applicable) accurately and in a timely manner as determined by meeting departmental standards.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences & Disorders
  • Florida Speech Language Pathologist license - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • Level II finger printing background and Good Moral Character Affidavit must be initiated within 15 days of hire date and finalized within 90 days of hire date
  • 8 years of pediatric clinical experience (or) 7 years of pediatric clinical experience plus 1 year board certification in a relevant specialty area
  • Previous leadership experience such as managing a project, leading a research initiative or department assignment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Pediatric Board Certification (in relevant specialty area) and/or Doctoral degree preferred.
  • Current membership in the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.
  • A plus if individual has participated in research, program development, or teaching appointments.
