About the position

You will perform preventative and corrective maintenance on weapons, protective equipment, and law enforcement related equipment. You will issue and maintain weapons and personal protective equipment to security and law enforcement personnel. You will ensure all weapons and ammunition are accounted for and required inventories executed within specified period. You will ensure all required standard operating procedures and applicable instructions for the armory remain current.

  • Ensure all required standard operating procedures and applicable instructions for the armory remain current.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date is subject to provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • May require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.
  • Required to wear safety clothing and equipment appropriate for the job and work area.
  • Covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment of the Gun Control Act.
  • Must meet qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm.
  • Must be able to read, legibly write, and speak English.
  • Must meet OPNAVINST 5530.13C screening requirements.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test is required.
  • Must attain/maintain access to NSWC Crane small arms registry for unit reporting purposes.
  • This position requires shift work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in repairing, rebuilding and modifying small arms, including machine guns, mortars, rocket launchers, and rifles.
  • Ability to determine the best method to correct malfunctions.
  • Experience in fitting and adjusting mechanical parts and assemblies of small arms equipment.
  • Utilization of go, no-go gauges to check for proper assembly and operating tolerances.
