About the position

The Small Business Banker is responsible for establishing and nurturing advisory relationships with small business clients, focusing on those with annual revenues. This role involves supporting an existing portfolio of clients while also developing new business opportunities through effective communication and relationship-building strategies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial sales and service, particularly in small business lending products, and will be adept at assessing client needs and making suitable lending recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Be the primary point of contact for a portfolio of small business clients within a defined geographic coverage area.
  • Routinely contact existing, prospective, or newly assigned clients primarily via telephone to develop relationships and new business opportunities.
  • Assess customer's financial needs and recommend appropriate products and services to assist in developing new business opportunities.
  • Support the growth of a designated branch market area and provide leadership by actively supporting assigned branches.
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of Western Alliance Bank deposit, lending, and treasury management products and services.
  • Collaborate with other departments to execute sales, relationship-building, and credit strategies for optimal results.
  • Stay abreast of changing business trends impacting small business clients and translate those trends into business opportunities.
  • Assist in mitigating risk, verifying audit compliance, and ensuring procedural quality control through branch operations review.
  • Ensure compliance with established Bank policies, procedures, and state and federal regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and five (5) or more years of Branch Banking Operations, Customer Service, or Lending and/or Deposits Sales or a combination thereof.
  • Intermediate knowledge of general banking operations, including deposit operations, loan administration, treasury management, and/or other commercial banking products and services.
  • Intermediate knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
  • Intermediate project management and organizational skills; ability to create momentum, foster organizational change, and work with senior management.
  • Experience advising business owners on complex credit/lending solutions.
  • Strong speaking and writing skills for internal and external audiences.
  • Ability to interpret client financial statements and recommend specific solutions to achieve goals.
