About the position

The Small Commercial Sales Rep / Territory Manager will be responsible for developing profitable business relationships with independent agencies in Virginia and West Virginia. This role focuses on executing an effective sales plan to achieve production and profit goals while providing tailored insurance solutions for small businesses. The position emphasizes building strong relationships with agents, understanding market conditions, and leveraging digital tools to enhance service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct personal meetings and telephone contact with agents to meet or exceed sales objectives.
  • Manage the assigned territory by analyzing competitor products, rates, and activities, providing recommendations accordingly.
  • Maintain current knowledge of underwriting territory and the nature of agents' business.
  • Handle sales administration responsibilities, including timely reporting and expense management.
  • Create demand and enable agents to maximize business flow to meet Hartford's financial goals.
  • Follow a disciplined sales process and ensure consistent execution of Sales Excellence principles.
  • Understand the assigned territory to identify the right mix of agents to meet financial objectives.
  • Possess deep knowledge of industry practices and market conditions to maximize business development.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with agents to exceed financial objectives.
  • Provide tools and information to agents to differentiate Hartford's offerings from competitors.
  • Manage flow to ensure adequate business mix to meet growth and profit objectives.
  • Create call plans to prioritize agency contact and activity for sustainable business flow.
  • Develop actionable Agency Sales Plans aligned with Hartford's financial objectives.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of P&C Small Commercial sales and marketing experience.
  • Proven outstanding sales performance and a strong desire to win.
  • Experience with agency training.
  • Technologically savvy, proficient in Microsoft tools such as SalesForce, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Exceptional sales and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to motivate people and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and travel within the assigned territory.

Nice-to-haves

  • Underwriting knowledge is beneficial.
  • Experience in a similar sales role within the insurance industry.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $82,960 - $124,440.
