About the position

The Port of San Diego is seeking a skilled Small Engine Repair Technician to maintain, test, and repair small engines and related machinery. This role involves performing repairs and maintenance on various small-engine-powered equipment, ensuring reliability and safety in operations. The technician will work under the guidance of the Lead Fleet Maintenance Technician, with expectations for independent task management and decision-making within established policies.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance on a variety of landscape maintenance tools and equipment.
• Make emergency field repairs to tools and equipment.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair small gasoline and electrical-powered engines.
• Perform electrical or circuit troubleshooting and repairs on equipment.
• Utilize specialized electrical and electronic testing devices to diagnose equipment failures.
• Maintain records and files regarding the maintenance and repair of tools and equipment.
• Ensure proper safety precautions are observed in the small engine repair shop.
• Prepare cost estimates and requisitions for necessary parts and supplies.

Requirements

• Two years of experience in the diagnosis, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of small engines and related equipment.
• Knowledge of proper methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment used in maintenance and repair.
• Ability to diagnose and repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems associated with landscape maintenance tools.
• Possession of a valid California Class 'C' Driver's License.
• Possession of CPR Certification.
