About the position

The Small Engine Technician at Ritter Lumber Company is responsible for performing maintenance and repair on small engines and outdoor power equipment, particularly STIHL products. This role emphasizes customer service, technical skills, and adherence to safety protocols while contributing to a family-owned business dedicated to community service and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, belts, and outdoor power equipment.
  • Following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications to troubleshoot malfunctions.
  • Locating sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation and using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Removing defective parts by dismantling devices using hoists and hand and power tools.
  • Providing mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
  • Receiving verbal or written orders from the supervisor.
  • Performing work according to standard procedures and the building's operational schedule.
  • Following all applicable safety rules and procedures.
  • Reporting work accomplished orally or on written work orders to the supervisor.
  • Contributing to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Assisting customers with product questions and purchases.
  • Providing information to customers and co-workers about product usage, availability, and application.
  • Maintaining an awareness of all product knowledge and current or upcoming promotions.
  • Maintaining inventory and displays within assigned area to merchandising standards.
  • Building and maintaining customer relationships.
  • Maintaining a standard of cleanliness and organization.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Driver's License.
  • Electrical experience.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Welding skills.
  • Mechanical knowledge.
  • Customer service skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • STIHL Repair Certification preferred.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of mechanical skills including electrical and welding.
