About the position

The Smart Manufacturing Technician/Project Manager at Montana Technological University is responsible for developing a one-year academic certificate program in Smart Manufacturing. This role involves conducting needs assessments, fostering partnerships with industry stakeholders, and collaborating with the Montana Manufacturing Extension Center to implement the program effectively. The position aims to enhance manufacturing operations through education and strategic partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and conduct a needs assessment for the Smart Manufacturing program.
  • Establish strategic partnerships with Montana's manufacturers.
  • Collaborate with the Montana Manufacturing Extension Center (MMEC) to create an online Smart Manufacturing Technician certificate.
  • Design and implement the one-year certificate program based on the needs assessment.
  • Develop partnerships with machinery, automation, and technology providers.
  • Write and review reports, tracking and reporting project progress.
  • Create educational materials and present public training workshops and technology demonstrations.
  • Attend required meetings with MMEC and the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).
  • Collaborate with MMEC's marketing team to write articles for newsletters as needed.
  • Work closely with the Highlands College team to foster a conducive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited college or university, OR a minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in improving manufacturing operations through digitization and automation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, ladder logic, electronics, control systems, sensors, motors, industrial machinery design, PLC control systems, robotics, CNC machining, CAD/CAM, additive manufacturing, visual control systems, and OSHA requirements.
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.
