About the position

In support of the Engineering Research and Development Center (ERDC), Team BAE provides program management and technical support necessary to advance services, capabilities, infrastructure, and technologies. Team BAE is seeking a Subject Matter Expert Linux Administrator to support a team of administrators with standard Linux system administration duties at ERDC in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The role involves performing standard Linux System Administration duties to maintain the smooth operation of multi-user computer systems consisting of Linux-based application and license servers, virtual machines, and GP/GPU cluster-based systems. Coordination with network administrators is required. Additional responsibilities include setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system-wide software, and allocating mass storage space. The Linux Administrator will also be responsible for developing and monitoring policies and standards for the allocation related to the use of computing resources. Participation in the installation, integration, acceptance testing, and ongoing maintenance of our HPC systems and software environment is essential. The role also involves assisting with forecasting resource limitations and providing recommendations for increasing the efficiency of our resources through proper scheduling and load balancing techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Perform standard Linux System Administration duties to maintain smooth operation of multi-user computer systems.
  • Set up administrator and service accounts.
  • Maintain system documentation and tune system performance.
  • Install system-wide software and allocate mass storage space.
  • Develop and monitor policies and standards for allocation related to computing resources.
  • Participate in the installation, integration, acceptance testing, and ongoing maintenance of HPC systems and software environment.
  • Assist with forecasting resource limitations and provide recommendations for resource efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 8+ years' working experience, or equivalent experience.
  • DoD 8570 certification - Security + and OS cert, Linux+, RedHat, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of Linux and Unix operating systems concepts and systems administration experience.
  • Ability to develop and maintain documentation on system administration procedures for routine and complex tasks.
  • Ability to create and maintain Information Assurance (IA) compliance documentation of the Information System.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with compiling, installing, and porting software.
  • Ability to understand application scaling issues related to problem resolution and algorithm choice.
  • Experience with Storage Architectures: SAN, SAS, FC, SATA, Bandwidth, Performance.
  • Ability to manage development of appropriate application benchmarks and analyze results.
  • Familiarity with multi-factor authentication platforms and solutions, and Identity Management such as OpenID, LDAP, and Kerberos.
  • Experience programming or troubleshooting Python code.
  • Experience with supporting Apache Web Server, Zabbix, Red Hat Satellite, or Red Hat Identity Manager.
  • Experience with BIND DNS and Ansible.
  • Experience with Gitlab.
