About the position

Join a world leader in mining and processing at Rio Tinto, where we are looking to fill multiple positions in our Hot Metals department at the Kennecott Utah Copper Smelter. As a Smelter Operator, you will be trained to perform operating duties in the smelting process while working around hot furnaces and wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators. You will be expected to follow our standard operating processes and actively care for the safety of yourself and others. New employees will participate in an 8-week onboarding program that combines classroom and in-field training, focusing on safety and technical skills necessary for the role. Responsibilities

  • Perform operating duties in the smelting process while working around hot furnaces.
  • Wear proper PPE including respirators during operations.
  • Follow standard operating processes to ensure safety.
  • Actively care for the safety of self and others during operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work wearing respirators all day.
  • Minimum age of 21 to comply with safety standards.
  • Commitment to safety in every task.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in processing, oil/gas, manufacturing, mining, construction, agriculture, hospitality, healthcare, airlines, or warehousing & logistics.
