About the position

The position is for a skilled mechanic at Freeport-McMoRan, responsible for performing diagnostic, maintenance, installation, and repair of equipment and process systems in a smelter environment. The role involves working with various systems and equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operations while adhering to safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Safely perform diagnostic, maintenance, installation, and repair of equipment and process systems in a smelter.
• Assist with and perform diagnostic, replacement, and repairs on systems including anode plant, mold plant, converter, acid plant, and hydraulic systems.
• Perform component diagnostic, replacement, and repairs on plant equipment such as gear boxes, pumps, fans, conveyor belts, and more.
• Conduct mechanical and lubrication preventative maintenance.
• Operate equipment such as forklifts, cranes, boom trucks, loaders, and small mobile equipment as needed.
• Proficiently perform welding tasks when required.
• Conduct work area inspections and housekeeping duties.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• One (1) year of experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance.
• Ability to read blueprints.
• Ability to work in extreme temperatures.
• Completion of academic and practical competencies required, including Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where applicable.
• Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and skills, passing a written assessment based on skills/abilities and safety.
