About the position

The Snowflake Database Administrator will be responsible for managing and optimizing the Snowflake platform, ensuring high availability and performance of database systems. This role involves hands-on administration of Snowflake and other MPP systems, participating in design discussions, and providing support for production environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in database administration, scripting, and a strong understanding of data security and optimization techniques.

Responsibilities

• Manage and optimize the Snowflake platform and other MPP systems.
• Participate in on-call rotation and provide production support.
• Engage in database design discussions and offer consulting services to business and data modelers.
• Monitor and alert on the Snowflake platform performance and security.
• Understand and implement data ingress and egress patterns between Snowflake and different cloud service providers (CSPs).
• Support multiple RDBMS including Postgres, SQL Server, DB2, and Netezza.
• Collaborate with application experts and infrastructure teams to find optimal solutions for capacity, security, and performance issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or Information Technology or equivalent experience.
• 3-4 years of hands-on experience with Snowflake Administration (AWS preferred, Azure acceptable).
• 5+ years of DBA experience with MPP systems and large data warehouses.
• 5+ years of scripting and automation experience using Shell, Perl, or Python.
• Proficiency in SQL and procedural languages of major RDBMS like Oracle, DB2, Postgres, or SQL Server.
• Experience with monitoring and alerting of the Snowflake platform.
• Understanding of database optimization techniques pertinent to Snowflake.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with big data ecosystems like Hadoop.
• Familiarity with Java, J2EE, Embedded SQL, Forms, and Reports.
• Experience in backend programming languages like PL/SQL, T-SQL, NZ SQL.
