About the position

The Snowflake - Tableau Developer will play a crucial role in the analysis and leadership of data analysis projects across the DPI enterprise, specifically focusing on School Business Data. This position requires a deep understanding of SQL, Snowflake, and Tableau, as well as experience with various database platforms including Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, and MS Access. The developer will be responsible for providing insights to other data analysts, data architects, and application developers to create an enterprise data reporting model that aligns with DPI's school business and technical requirements. The enterprise environment is complex and multi-platform, incorporating legacy systems alongside modern technologies such as Amazon AWS/Snowflake and Microsoft Azure. The developer will work with a variety of tools including Tableau and Power BI, and will be expected to contribute to the establishment of an enterprise data model aimed at standardizing shared data entities and attributes. This role also involves providing subject matter expertise and training to other SQL/Snowflake and Tableau developers and analysts, ensuring that the team is equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their projects. The position is onsite in Raleigh, NC, and is expected to last for 7 months with the possibility of extension. The developer will work a standard 40-hour week, Monday through Friday, and will be compensated at a rate of $50.00 - $55.00 per hour. The anticipated start date is within 1-2 weeks from the time of hiring.

Responsibilities

  • Provide analysis and leadership on data analysis projects across the DPI enterprise focusing on School Business Data.
  • Create an enterprise data reporting model that meets DPI's school business and technical requirements.
  • Provide insight to other data analysts, data architects, and application developers.
  • Offer subject matter expertise and training to other SQL/Snowflake and Tableau developers and analysts.
  • Design and deliver data mapping specifications for large reporting platforms.
  • Write and maintain business rules using SQL logic.
  • Demonstrate experience in writing ad-hoc SQL statements.

Requirements

  • Experience with SQL databases and related ETL and advanced data validations in Snowflake and Azure.
  • Experience in data visualization using Tableau and Power BI.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in a technology-related field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering).
  • Proven track record of solving real-world problems using data.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Understanding of different database platforms: Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, and MS Access.
  • Understanding of Data Warehousing (AWS/Snowflake and Azure) and data mining for reporting and analysis.
  • Understanding of modeling strategies (dimensional, Snowflake, relational, unstructured).
  • Proven experience with ERD/Data Modelling tools (Toad or others).
  • Experience in executing projects in an Agile/Hybrid environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data reporting tools especially Tableau and preferably also Power BI, Viya, others.
