About the position

The SNP Operations and Training Specialist plays a crucial role in the School Nutrition Program (SNP) by providing comprehensive training and support to School Nutrition staff. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and county regulations while enhancing the operational effectiveness of the School Nutrition Department. The specialist will conduct on-site training, develop training materials, and oversee various training programs aimed at improving the skills and knowledge of School Nutrition Managers, Assistant Managers, and Food Service Workers. The role requires a strong ability to communicate effectively with diverse teams and manage training initiatives that align with the goals of the SNP. In this position, the specialist will work closely with the Coordinator of School Nutrition Operations to identify training needs through operational audits and provide technical guidance in areas such as inventory management, food safety, and customer service. The specialist will also be responsible for developing and implementing training programs that cover all aspects of food service, including introductory courses and continuing education. This includes overseeing the Assistant Manager training program and coordinating meetings for managers and assistants. The SNP Operations and Training Specialist will lead training sessions for new management team members, focusing on essential skills such as forecasting and meal planning to ensure compliance with USDA requirements. Additionally, the specialist will conduct train-the-trainer sessions, instruct ServSafe examinations, and collaborate with central office personnel to enhance training programs for new staff members. Continuous quality improvement and the planning of new meal programs will also be part of the specialist's responsibilities, ensuring that the School Nutrition Department operates efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support and technical assistance in training School Nutrition staff for compliance within the School Nutrition Program (SNP).
  • Conduct operational audits to identify training needs and provide technical guidance in areas such as inventory management and food safety.
  • Develop and implement training programs for all phases of food service, including introductory and continuing education programs.
  • Oversee the Assistant Manager training program and assist in coordinating Manager and Assistant Manager meetings.
  • Provide ongoing SNP training and assistance to employees in all aspects of local school operations.
  • Lead training for new management team members on forecasting, production needs, and employee scheduling.
  • Conduct train-the-trainer sessions for School Nutrition Managers on equipment operational procedures and maintenance.
  • Work with central office personnel to coordinate training programs for new staff members and update training manuals.
  • Assist with continuous quality improvement to departmental processes.
  • Plan and implement additional School Nutrition meal programs and initiatives as needed.

Requirements

  • Valid Georgia Class C Driver's License required.
  • Valid ServSafe certification required.
  • Department of Education (DOE) School Nutrition Manager 1 certification required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Five years of supervisory experience in cafeteria management or a related supervisory/leadership position required.
  • Experience in cafeteria training in a school setting preferred.
  • Ability to manage programs and effectively communicate with administration and personnel.
  • Ability to manage a team with diverse skill sets and lead them in continuous improvement.
  • Ability to develop training materials to achieve objectives.
  • Ability to analyze existing processes and identify areas for improvement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in developing training materials and instructional practices.
  • Familiarity with USDA requirements for school nutrition programs.
