Snr Product Engineer , Steering Wheels

About the position

IMMI is seeking for a Snr Product Engineer, Steering Wheels to Design and develop new products or improve current products using engineering disciplines and tools such as Stage-Gate, Computer Aided Design and Engineering tools, Test and Validation, Product Release, etc. The goal is to produce products that meet IMMI targets for performance specifications, cost and timing. (On Spec, On Time and On Cost)

Responsibilities

• Responsible for Design and Development of Automotive Steering Wheel systems.
• Provide guidance to designers/supporting engineers for designs, drawings, requisitions, etc. to meet regulatory, process, mechanical and project requirements.
• Work collaboratively to execute projects with various internal competencies i.e., Testing, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality and Finance.
• Support Customers with technical information and initiatives. This can include developing and/or creating design concepts, CAD models, prototypes and technical reports/presentations.
• Engage with suppliers and outside contractors to accomplish key outsourcing activities like part sourcing or contract design.
• Get 'hands-on' and build functional prototypes to evaluate form, fit, function, and assembly methods.
• Develop and execute validation testing to qualify designs through the product development process.
• Ability to oversee and manage multiple projects at a time and prioritize work.
• Gain peer and management product insight through informal and formal design reviews.
• Utilize design tools available to maximize development time while ensuring optimal product design.
• Fully supports company programs, policies and objectives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering field (BSME, BSMET) required.
• Six Sigma certification preferred.
• 10+ years of product design experience in Automotive Steering wheel design.
• Strong knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA).
• Proficient with 2D & 3D solid modeling design software, Solidworks preferred. Surface modelling experience is a plus.
• Injection molded part design experience required (plastic or foam).
• Die casting and Sheet Metal design experience required.
• Must have general knowledge of manufacturing processes such as robotic welding, foam or plastic molding, stamping, forming and assembly methodologies.
• Strong results orientation and positive 'can do' attitude with a sense of urgency.
• Self-starter: a 'hands-on' individual who enjoys challenge and is dedicated to getting the job done with minimal support and direction.
