About the position

The SNY Freelance Jib Operator is responsible for collaborating with technical and news teams to fulfill production needs for live, taped, and automated programming. This role involves operating the Cammate Jib and ensuring smooth camera movements, as well as utilizing handheld camera skills as required. The operator will assist in maintaining studio cameras and managing set pieces, while partnering with the Director to create visually compelling shots. Training others for backup purposes is also part of the responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with technical and news teams to meet production needs for live, taped, and automated programming under the supervision of the Director and Operations management.
• Proficiently operate Cammate Jib, ensuring smooth and creative camera movements.
• Utilize hand-held camera skills as needed by production demands.
• Assist in the maintenance of studio cameras and manage the movement of all set pieces and props.
• Partner with the Director to create visually compelling and varied shots.
• Train others for backup purposes as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Communications or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in live, multi-camera studio production, with a focus on camera operation.
• Proficiency in operating Cammate, Jib and Ikegami HD cameras.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues with Jib equipment and setup.
• Must be able to lift 25+ lbs. depending on set/strike studio gear.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with NY sports is a plus.
• Proficiency in iNEWS or similar newsroom software system a plus.
• With proper training, serve as fill-in for all other Tech 1 positions as needed (i.e. Robotic Camera, Playback, Video Shading).
• Excellent interpersonal & communication skills.
• A collaborative team player who excels in a fast paced, dynamic studio environment.
• Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including weekends and holidays.

Benefits

• Estimated hourly rate of $42.00 - $45.00 commensurate with experience.
