About the position

The SoC Hardware (Digital, Analog or PnP) Validation Engineer will be part of Microsoft's Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) team, focusing on post-silicon validation for custom silicon projects. This role is crucial for ensuring high-quality, efficient, and timely deployment of hardware infrastructure that supports Microsoft's cloud services. The engineer will engage in functional, electrical, and power/performance validation, contributing to the development of innovative solutions that optimize cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Own post-silicon validation of functional, electrical, or power/performance aspects.
  • Define, guide, and contribute to the implementation of silicon debug tools and capabilities.
  • Become proficient in the overall architecture and implementation of complex features/flows/protocols.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to other engineers.
  • Develop validation strategy, requirements, environments, tools, and methodologies.
  • Write test plans and implement them by developing test content, scripts, tools, and other validation collateral.
  • Execute content in post-silicon, triage, and debug failures.
  • Engage with partners to drive continuous improvement in design and validation plans.
  • Collaborate with architects, logic designers, verification engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide high-quality results on schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 4+ years technical engineering experience.
  • Applied understanding of Computer Architecture and CPU/SoC validation principles.
  • Understanding of SoC subsystem, SoC system level, and platform level functionality.
  • Proficiency in writing scripts/software with industry standard languages like Python or C/C++.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficient communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills.
  • Experience in verification, logic development, validation, or validation tools for CPU, SoC, or IP development.
  • Leadership skills and demonstrated validation expertise in various areas.
  • Ability to develop and build kernels and modify existing commercial OS images.
  • Experience running silicon content on pre-silicon platforms such as emulation or FPGA.
  • Hands-on experience debugging silicon failures using on-chip debug features and test equipment.
