About the position

The Social Editor for Yahoo News will lead the evening coverage across various social media platforms, ensuring timely and engaging content for a U.S. audience. This role is crucial for driving growth and engagement through collaboration with multiple teams and managing content from premium publishers and Yahoo's original content. The editor will also play a key role in planning coverage for significant events, including the 2024 elections, while maintaining Yahoo's editorial standards and voice.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Yahoo News channels across platforms, ensuring effective prioritization of breaking news.
  • Write, edit and post content on News accounts across platforms including Instagram, X (Twitter), Facebook, TikTok, Threads, Reddit, WhatsApp, and LinkedIn.
  • Identify content from Yahoo's ecosystem to highlight the right topics for the right platforms at the right times.
  • Collaborate with multiple teams across Yahoo to ensure timely promotion of the best content during U.S. evenings.
  • Coordinate with appropriate teams during breaking news and planned news events.
  • Quickly edit short video clips of key news moments and stream live events across platforms.
  • Maintain Yahoo's editorial voice and uphold editorial standards on social media.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience in social media-focused journalism roles.
  • Experience working in fast-paced and/or large-scale media, news or social media companies.
  • Demonstrated news judgment and ability to adapt text-based journalism for social and messaging platforms.
  • Ability to craft compelling, clear, error-free copy for social audiences that adheres to AP and house style guidelines.
  • Extensive knowledge of social platforms and their best practices, industry trends, and audience consumption habits.
  • Ability to perform deadline-oriented tasks without sacrificing quality.
  • Knowledge of video editing software and experience using templates, graphics, and footage to create video content for social.
  • Attention to detail and strong communication skills.
  • Experience with analytics tools and making insightful data actionable.
  • Fluency in tools such as Canva, SocialFlow, Emplifi, Sprout, Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, Later, etc.
