About the position
The Social Insurance Specialist (Claims Specialist) position is a temporary, part-time role located in the Greeley District Office, responsible for providing direct service to the public regarding Social Security benefits. The role involves gathering information, making critical decisions on eligibility, and utilizing advanced technology to manage claims effectively. This position is open to individuals eligible under the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) and military spouses.
Responsibilities
- Speak with beneficiaries about their rights under Social Security laws.
- Gather facts and evidence to establish eligibility for benefits.
- Make critical decisions to determine the amount of benefits paid to individuals.
- Conduct interviews with the public to obtain, clarify, and verify information about eligibility for various benefits.
- Resolve discrepancies and clarify issues related to benefits and payments.
- Adjudicate and authorize entitlement or disallowance actions under SSA programs.
- Identify and investigate potential program abuse.
- Use technology to access and update claims information.
Requirements
- 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in developing, examining, investigating, or authorizing claims under SSA benefits or related programs.
- Meet and deal ability is required, demonstrated through a structured panel interview.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Proof of ICTAP eligibility is required.
