About the position

The Goethe-Institut San Francisco is seeking a Social Media and Public Relations Associate to join our team on a part-time basis, working 24 hours per week. This position is set to commence on September 1st, 2024. The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institution of the Federal Republic of Germany, dedicated to promoting knowledge of the German language abroad and fostering international cultural cooperation. Our mission is to convey a comprehensive picture of Germany through information on the cultural, social, and political life of our country. We aim to promote intercultural dialogue and facilitate cultural participation, thereby strengthening the development of civil society structures and enabling worldwide mobility. As a Social Media and Public Relations Associate, you will play a crucial role in managing our social media presence and public relations efforts. Your responsibilities will include developing social media concepts and communication strategies, managing community interactions, and collaborating with partners on various Goethe-Institut topics and projects. You will also be responsible for content communication across our website, electronic newsletters, and print products, including the Step into German Project. Additionally, you will handle guest relations in our reception area, manage the main phone line and info email, and participate actively in regional information team activities and events. General administrative tasks will also be part of your role. This position requires a commitment to working on-site for a minimum of two days per week, with the possibility of event-related schedule changes, including weekends and evenings. The role is designed for a proactive team player who is self-reliant and possesses strong social and intercultural competencies. The contract is for one year, with the potential for continued employment based on performance and organizational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop social media concepts and communication strategies.
  • Manage community interactions on social media platforms.
  • Collaborate with partners on Goethe-Institut topics and projects.
  • Create and manage content for the website, electronic newsletters, and print products.
  • Handle guest relations in the reception area and guest lounge.
  • Cover the main phone line and info email for inquiries.
  • Design and edit images and text for various communications.
  • Participate in regional information team activities and events.
  • Perform general administrative tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Professional experience in social media and public relations.
  • Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and German.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and design tools.
  • High social and intercultural competencies.
  • Ability to work 24 hours per week, generally over 4 days on-site.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in marketing (1 year preferred).
