About the position

The Social Media Community Associate will play a crucial role in building and nurturing Weedmaps' online community, particularly within the cannabis sector. This temporary position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community management, focusing on engaging with cannabis communities across various social media platforms. The role is expected to average 20 hours per week over a period of five months, providing a flexible yet impactful work experience. In this position, you will assist in developing and implementing community engagement strategies that resonate with our audience. You will monitor and actively participate in relevant online discussions on assigned social platforms, ensuring that our community feels heard and valued. Your responsibilities will also include supporting the creation and curation of engaging content that drives community interactions, as well as managing and moderating community forums to maintain a positive and respectful environment. Collaboration is key in this role; you will work closely with internal teams to gather insights and feedback from the community, which will help shape our marketing, content, and social tactics. Additionally, you will track and analyze community engagement metrics, contributing to regular reporting to assess the effectiveness of our strategies. Responding to community inquiries and providing support under the guidance of the Community Manager will also be part of your daily tasks. Staying informed about the latest trends and best practices in online community management will be essential to your success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in building and nurturing our online community using social media platforms.
  • Develop and implement community engagement strategies.
  • Monitor and participate in relevant online discussions on assigned social platform(s).
  • Support the creation and curation of engaging content to drive community interactions.
  • Manage and moderate community forums to ensure a positive and respectful environment.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather insights and feedback from the community.
  • Track and analyze community engagement metrics and contribute to regular reporting.
  • Respond to social community inquiries in platform and provide support to users under the guidance of the Community Manager.
  • Stay informed about the latest trends and best practices in online community management.
  • Surface topics and relevant discussions to internal teams to help influence marketing, content & social tactics.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms including Discord, Facebook, Kick, Reddit, Telegram, Tik Tok, Twitch, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Creative thinking and the ability to generate engaging content.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A strong understanding and passion for cannabis and an interest in building online communities.
  • Must be 21 years old.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to work non-traditional hours.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in community management, social media, or digital marketing.
