About the position

The Athletics Social Media/Content Assistant at Texas Southern University is responsible for creating and distributing engaging social media content while managing the university's athletics social media strategy. This role involves collaboration with various departments to enhance brand awareness and fan engagement, as well as monitoring social media trends to inform strategy adjustments. The position requires in-person attendance on campus and travel for away games and special events.

Responsibilities

• Create and distribute engaging social media content for Texas Southern University Athletics.
• Manage the day-to-day operation of the social media strategy for athletics.
• Serve as the Sports Information Director contact for assigned sports.
• Set strategy and direct the creation of content across various social media platforms including Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and Threads.
• Collaborate with the university social media team for content coordination and cross-promotion.
• Work with marketing and graphic design teams on campaigns for fan engagement and brand awareness.
• Assist with TSU Athletics live stream setup and breakdown as needed.
• Stay updated on emerging social media trends and recommend strategy adjustments to leadership.
• Communicate effectively with a diverse range of audiences including faculty, students, and alumni.
• Assess and track items/equipment needed for social media campaigns.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Sport Management, Business, Marketing, or a related field.
• 3 years of experience in sports communication.
• Proficiency in Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, Audition).
• Strong communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with CMS website maintenance.
• Ability to work outside of normal business hours, including evenings and weekends.
