About the position

The University of South Carolina is seeking a talented and creative social media content creator to join our award-winning social media team. The ideal candidate will be a passionate self-starter with exceptional working knowledge of social media best practices and trend watching to produce content on behalf of USC that resonates with our varied online audiences. We're looking for someone who thrives during each stage of the creative process (from brainstorming to publishing) with a propensity toward creating short form video content, capturing engaging photos and producing gifs, graphics and the occasional written content. The perfect candidate will be an out-of-the-box but within-the-brand thinker with a portfolio of sharp work already under their belt. This position will collaborate closely with many stakeholders in marketing and communications including, but not limited to, staff videographers and photographers, designers, writers and a team of talented interns to ensure that the content we publish is optimized for each platform we use. The ideal candidate will also be a deadline-driven, energetic multitasker who thrives when juggling several different to-do list items. A critical part of the team, the person who fills this role should be organized, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic about social media, and preferably, the University of South Carolina.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently produce digital media for distribution on University of South Carolina social media feeds including graphics, motion graphics, gifs, short format videos, infographics, photos and web stories.
  • Analyze content posted to university-level accounts and make changes based on performance and audience engagement.
  • Brainstorm content ideas with other creatives on the team and pursue good ideas based on data, strategy and best practices.
  • Assist in the creation of a monthly report summarizing content performance across the office of communications and marketing.
  • Track projects from start to finish using internal database: Use best practices for digital asset management to ensure easy archival and retrieval of branded digital media assets.
  • Research, concept and refine branded digital media creative executions for use on university social media platforms.
  • Monitor the internet for brand-relevant trends and communicate with the senior social media strategist on appropriate ways to join trending conversations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and two or more years of professional experience producing creative digital assets for a brand or organization.
  • Better-than-average understanding of social media platforms and content production trends.
  • Keen understanding of the rapidly-evolving digital landscape and a proven interest in keeping up-to-date with developments in social platforms and creative applications.
  • Proficient knowledge of the full Adobe Creative Suite as well as web-based design programs like Canva.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • A bachelor's degree in visual communications, media arts, mass communication, marketing, advertising or a related field with one year of content production experience.
  • Native social media user who possesses working knowledge about TikTok, Instagram (Threads, Reels, Stories, Highlights, etc.), Facebook, YouTube, YouTube Shorts, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, etc.
  • Experience working independently and collaboratively with colleagues across communication functions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and independent self-direction coupled with an aptitude for team collaboration.
  • Adaptable to new technology including production management and team collaboration software.
