About the position

The Social Media Manager at the National Council on Aging (NCOA) plays a crucial role in enhancing the organization's digital presence and engagement with its audience. This position is designed for a dynamic individual who is passionate about social media and its potential to drive meaningful change for older adults. The Social Media Manager will be responsible for managing NCOA's presence across various social media platforms, including Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Threads, and Instagram, as well as exploring new and emerging platforms. This role requires a strategic mindset to build a comprehensive content calendar that aligns with the organization's mission and engages followers effectively. In this position, the Social Media Manager will set the organization's social media strategy, defining target audiences and goals while ensuring that all objectives are met. Daily operations will include writing, posting, and scheduling content, as well as responding to audience comments and inquiries. The Manager will collaborate with key internal stakeholders to promote relevant website content, drive fundraising efforts, and educate followers on public policy issues. By developing engaging social posts that resonate with NCOA's audience, the Manager will help transform passive users into active advocates and donors. The role also involves analyzing social media performance data to inform strategy adjustments and improve engagement. The Social Media Manager will serve as an in-house expert on social media best practices, providing training and support to NCOA staff and grantees. Staying current with new technologies and digital strategies is essential to keep NCOA at the forefront of online communications. Responsibilities

  • Set the organization's social media strategy, defining audiences and goals.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of NCOA's social media platforms, including writing, posting, and scheduling content daily.
  • Respond to comments and engage with followers on social media.
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive calendar for all NCOA social media content across all platforms.
  • Promote relevant and new website content and tools, driving conversions and achieving project goals.
  • Drive individual donations to boost unrestricted revenue through social media.
  • Identify and execute corporate partner social promotion opportunities.
  • Educate NCOA followers about policy issues and drive them to take action.
  • Share branded messages, press releases, and media mentions on social media.
  • Define target audiences for each social platform and work to build engagement.
  • Write and produce engaging social posts that connect with NCOA's audiences.
  • Identify opportunities to gather first-person data about NCOA audiences.
  • Support NCOA staff and executives in building their professional social media presence.
  • Provide training for NCOA grantees on best practices in social media.
  • Collaborate with graphic designers to create engaging social images, videos, and animations.
  • Ensure NCOA social posts are compliant and optimized for user preferences.
  • Set annual social media goals and report on performance data regularly.
  • Use data to recommend new tactics and adjust strategy as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 5-7 years of relevant experience in social media management.
  • Proven experience with social media content, engagement, community-building, and analytics.
  • Strong communication skills with impeccable writing, editing, and proofreading abilities.
  • Experience using cloud-based project management software.
  • Proven experience in social media platform growth and engagement strategies.
  • Proficiency in all major social media platforms and scheduling/monitoring tools like Sprout and HootSuite.
  • Graphic design knowledge and experience using Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
  • Customer service oriented with a knowledge of aging services issues a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduate level degrees may be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Experience in fundraising through social media campaigns.
