About the position

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) is seeking a Social Media Program Manager to join its Strategic Communications team. This role is pivotal in supporting the strategic planning, execution, and management of social media efforts within the University Communications office. The Social Media Program Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of institutional social media accounts, organizing and producing digital content, including written, audio, video, and photographic content tailored to target audiences. The position is designed to maintain and grow UCCS's social media channels, provide customer service support, and foster community engagement through social media platforms. The manager will ensure integrated messaging and compatible branding across all social media platforms while managing issues that may arise in support of the university's brand and mission. In addition to managing social media channels, the Social Media Program Manager will build and maintain relationships across campus, providing training and guidance for campus social media managers. Staying informed about trends in social media and bringing these insights to the communications team is essential. The role also involves contributing written copy, photography, video, and other digital content to support strategic communications efforts. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of social media management, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work independently while managing multiple projects. The work environment is on-site with hybrid options available, and the position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions. Responsibilities

  • Develop long-term and short-term strategic plans and goals for institutional social media in support of the university brand.
  • Create and manage a social media posting calendar based on strategic objectives.
  • Manage the university's social media sites including Facebook, X, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Coordinate campus social media efforts and advocate for social media use across the university community.
  • Conduct social media training for faculty and staff, emphasizing best practices.
  • Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of social media programs and campaigns, reporting on insights gained.
  • Provide customer service support, responding to inquiries and managing criticism of university policies.
  • Contribute to internal communications, media relations, and crisis communications as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in social media management for a business or organization.
  • A portfolio demonstrating social media management experience is required for on-campus interviews.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2 years of experience in social media management in a higher education setting.
  • Experience managing an official university-level social channel.
  • Knowledge of leveraging and measuring social networking sites and web analytics.
  • Understanding of design and photography principles.
  • Video production experience, both creative and technical.
  • Experience in public media relations and crisis communications.
