About the position

The Social Science Research Analyst at the United Planning Organization (UPO) will focus on research related to low-income communities in Washington, DC. The role involves gathering and analyzing data, conducting research for grant opportunities, and assisting in the production of grant applications. The analyst will employ various research methods to provide actionable insights that support UPO's operational and resource development efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, analyze, and present information and data to inform strategic decisions.
  • Perform analyses on US Census data relevant to low-income communities.
  • Coordinate with UPO's Office of Performance Management to develop strategies for data analysis.
  • Support divisional directors in updating UPO's strategic and tactical plans.
  • Conduct thorough research to support business development efforts.
  • Analyze data for UPO's Triennial Community Needs Assessment.
  • Develop a 12-month data gathering and assessment plan for a city-wide needs survey.
  • Author substantial portions of the needs assessment report.
  • Prepare presentations for UPO leadership and board members regarding findings.
  • Support UPO staff, volunteers, and interns in the needs assessment process.
  • Produce annual updates to the needs assessment and relevant trend information.
  • Draft research and develop content for grant proposals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Economics, Public Policy, English, Public Health, Sociology, Social Work, Human Development, or related field.
  • Experience with data analysis tools (e.g., R, Question Pro, Qualtrics, NVivo, GIS, Power BI).
  • Experience conducting primary and secondary research.
  • Experience working on concurrent projects in a cross-functional environment.
  • At least two years of quantitative or statistical analysis experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience in GIS (Geospatial Information Systems) platform.
  • Experience with data visualization tools.
  • Experience writing private and government grants.
  • Advanced statistical knowledge.
