About the position

The Social Science Research Program Manager at Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM) is responsible for coordinating and implementing research studies focused on sexual and reproductive health. This role involves working closely with principal investigators, managing research assistants, and ensuring effective communication and collaboration among various stakeholders. The position requires a strong commitment to reproductive health and justice, as well as the ability to work independently and manage multiple research projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures and plans for social science research projects.
  • Create detailed data manuals for retrospective studies.
  • Collaborate with health center staff to communicate about study planning and implementation.
  • Assist principal investigators in developing research materials and documentation.
  • Compile and report information for Institutional Review Boards and study sponsors.
  • Train and supervise research assistants and interns.
  • Manage purchasing and reimbursement processes for social science studies.
  • Track and report study expenditures to the principal investigator and director.
  • Recruit and convene relevant advisory committees.
  • Perform administrative tasks to support principal investigators and the department.
  • Supervise recruitment of study participants and report on recruitment status.
  • Obtain informed consent and collect data from participants.
  • Maintain filing systems to ensure subject confidentiality and compliance with research guidelines.
  • Perform medical chart reviews and supervise data abstraction processes.
  • Create and maintain study databases and ensure data entry is current.
  • Maintain correspondence with study participants and ensure reimbursement as outlined in protocols.
  • Export and clean quantitative data and perform basic analyses.
  • Support grant writing and participate in qualitative data coding.
  • Coordinate data sharing with collaborators and participate in manuscript writing.

Requirements

  • BA/BS required; master's degree in a relevant field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of research experience with a bachelor's degree or 2 years with a master's degree.
  • Demonstrated commitment to reproductive health, rights, and justice.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong quantitative skills for administrative tasks.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Familiarity with scientific software such as R, Stata, SAS, Atlas, Dedoose, or Nvivo preferred.
  • Experience programming databases in Qualtrics or REDCap preferred.
  • Experience working with human subjects preferred.
  • Experience managing direct reports preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with qualitative data coding.
  • Familiarity with grant writing and editing.
