About the position

The position involves assisting with the development of operating procedures for individual and group counseling within the USDA Forest Service. The incumbent will work collaboratively with various staff members to ensure the integration of behavioral and educational plans, conduct counseling sessions, and promote positive behavioral goals among individuals. This role emphasizes the importance of personal hygiene, job punctuality, and cooperation among colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development of FS operating procedures related to individual and/or group counseling.
  • Solicit input from the core team to develop an overall behavioral and educational plan.
  • Monitor and document progress of individuals in the program.
  • Collaborate with mental health consultants, physicians, health services staff, and counselors to ensure program integration.
  • Conduct ongoing individual counseling and support group sessions.
  • Work with the recreation department to develop leisure activities and incentives for positive behavior.
  • Establish and maintain liaison with community resources.
  • Counsel individuals on performance-related matters to encourage success.
  • Instruct others on the importance of personal hygiene, professional appearance, job punctuality, and reliability.
  • Communicate the importance of cooperation, acceptance of constructive criticism, and respect for company property.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
  • Possess a valid State Driver's License.
  • Must submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Degree in behavioral or social science or related disciplines, or equivalent experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in counseling or guidance roles in educational or social service settings.
  • Knowledge of behavioral or social sciences.
