About The Position

The Social Science Teacher at Townsend Junior High School for the 2024/2025 school year will be responsible for teaching various social studies subjects to secondary students. The role involves developing a comprehensive curriculum that encourages critical thinking, understanding of governmental systems, and awareness of current events. The teacher will create engaging lesson plans, facilitate discussions on social and political issues, and promote civic responsibility among students.

Requirements

  • Valid California Single Subject Credential: Social Science
  • English Learner Authorization
  • Copy of Transcript (All Undergraduate AND Graduate coursework)
  • Credential Copy (Detailed copy from ctc.gov, including subject, expiration date, and document number)
  • Letter of Introduction
  • Two (2) letters of Recommendation (must be signed and dated within the last 24 months)

Responsibilities

  • Teaches courses in social studies, history, geography, American government, political science, or humanities to secondary pupils using appropriate learning materials.
  • Develops a balanced social studies program involving factual background material on current events, discussion time, and other appropriate activities designed to encourage pupils to develop skills and attitudes.
  • Develops knowledge of the purpose, structure, and operation of the American governmental and economic system, and the rights and responsibilities of American citizenship.
  • Makes material from current magazines, newspapers, television programs, etc., available to pupils; plans and guides discussions of current social, political, and economic problems.
  • Develops an understanding of the contributions of minority racial, religious, and political groups to American culture, and the role of minorities in our present day world.
  • Develops knowledge of political and economic systems of other nations and their influence on personal freedom, education, and living standards of the people in those nations.
  • Encourages pupils to become aware of the complexity and interrelations of local, state, national, and world problems.
  • Creates interest centers and displays of material to enhance learning.
  • Develops weekly lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy and curriculum of the District.
  • Provides students with the opportunity to partake in daily patriotic observance.
  • Monitors classroom environment to ensure clean and safe conditions exist, notifying principal of any unclean or unsafe classroom conditions.
  • Monitors classroom activities making students responsible for putting materials, supplies, tools, etc., safely and neatly away at the end of the class session.
