About the position

The Social Services Assistant-CWS position at Yolo County involves providing support to Child Welfare social workers by performing various social service support and clerical functions. The role requires flexibility, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in challenging situations. The assistant will monitor court-ordered visits, document interactions, and assist families in developing service plans, all while maintaining a supportive and organized approach to their work.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor court-ordered visits between children and parents and maintain comprehensive notes of those interactions for the assigned social worker.
  • Observe and document behaviors during visitation, counsel clients to identify consistencies and confront inconsistencies in parenting practices.
  • Identify and address child and family functioning, and present alternatives to clients' problems to the social worker.
  • Partner with families and social workers to help develop individual and family service plans.
  • Follow up with clients on progress toward their parenting plan and refocus them on defined goals when necessary.
  • Transport youth and families to visitations and medical appointments, alerting social workers of immediate concerns.
  • Support social workers with calendar scheduling, filing court files, and acting as a scribe during field interviews.
  • Create service/court files and request necessary records, summarizing them as needed.
  • Maintain drug test supplies and order forms/packets used in the field.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid California driver's license, Class C or higher.
  • Six months of paid or unpaid experience working with children, the elderly, disabled, ill, or convalescent persons.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Wound Specialist.
