About the position

This position is with the Office of Special Disability Programs within the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS). The Social Services Program Coordinator II plays a crucial role in identifying and coordinating long-term services and supports for individuals with severe physical disabilities, enabling them to maintain independence in their homes and communities. The coordinator is responsible for overseeing community-based services, ensuring that individuals receive the necessary support to live as independently as possible. This includes planning and monitoring accessibility needs and in-home personal care services, which are tailored to the specific needs of each individual based on a functional assessment. The Social Services Program Coordinator oversees the assessment and reassessment processes for individuals' levels of care, ensuring that the plans for services and supports are effectively implemented in the individuals' homes. Responsibilities include monitoring all approved services to meet the current needs of individuals, conducting quarterly home visits, and maintaining monthly telephone contact with those being served. The coordinator also ensures that personal care attendants (PCAs) selected by the individuals meet the required competencies and is responsible for reviewing and approving their payroll. This position requires travel within the assigned area to fulfill these responsibilities effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Travel within the assigned area as required.

Requirements

  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, and provide timely services to individuals.
  • Strong multi-tasking abilities and attention to detail.
  • Analytical skills and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 2-4 years of experience.
  • Agency preferred qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Counseling or a related field, and two years of experience working with individuals with disabilities.
