About the position

The Wall Street Journal is seeking a Social Strategy Editor to spearhead and refine our off-platform strategies aimed at discovering and engaging new audiences. In a rapidly changing social media landscape, this role presents an exciting opportunity to build a dynamic team that will implement tailored strategies across established platforms like LinkedIn and TikTok, while also exploring new avenues on emerging platforms. We are particularly interested in innovative methods for cultivating reader relationships through social media and understanding how we can effectively engage and nurture future readers of the WSJ. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in data-driven strategies for audience growth and engagement, along with experience in creating and editing social content across various formats, including text, images, and videos. As a seasoned leader, you will be responsible for setting the direction and objectives for your team, ensuring that they are met with precision and creativity. In this role, you will lead a team of social media producers who are responsible for daily content output across all social media platforms. You will create and document customized approaches to each platform, focusing on audience engagement and setting specific targets that align with your strategic goals. Collaboration will be key, as you will work closely with colleagues in content strategy, data and analytics, video production, and photography to enhance our social media presence. Additionally, you will foster relationships with newsroom editors to identify collaborative opportunities across various coverage areas, including finance, economics, business, and geopolitics. You will also coordinate with marketing and live events teams to ensure our growth strategies are aligned. Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of social media producers responsible for daily output across all text, image, and video-based social media platforms.
  • Create and document bespoke approaches to platforms on an audience-first basis, setting bespoke targets to align with your goals.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in content strategy, data and analytics, video, pictures, and coverage to optimize our social presence.
  • Foster relationships with editors around the newsroom to find opportunities for collaboration across all areas of coverage including finance, economics, business, and geopolitics.
  • Work with marketing and live events teams to align strategies for growth.
  • Uphold The Wall Street Journal's commitment to quality and high standards across all outputs.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in a newsroom role, preferably focused on reaching and nurturing new audiences.
  • At least 3 years of management experience.
  • Exceptionally high levels of data literacy, including the ability to pull and parse internal and off-platform data to inform decisions.
  • A track record of setting strategic paths and supporting a tactical team to execute, including goal setting and reporting.
  • Subject matter expertise and a genuine interest in media technology and the future of news.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including excellent written and verbal communication.
