About the position

The Ukiah Unified School District is seeking a dedicated and passionate Social Studies Teacher to join our vibrant educational community. This position is essential for fostering a rich learning environment for our diverse student body, which includes approximately 6,000 students from preschool through adult education. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in Social Studies, utilizing effective teaching strategies and techniques that cater to various learning styles and levels of difficulty. Instruction will be conducted in Spanish, emphasizing the importance of bilingual education in our curriculum. As a Social Studies Teacher, you will be expected to organize and present lessons that maximize instructional time and engage students in meaningful learning experiences. You will demonstrate a thorough understanding of the curriculum and subject matter, ensuring that your lessons align with the educational standards set forth by the Board of Education and the State of California. Your role will also involve diagnosing student achievement levels, formulating both long-range and short-term objectives, and evaluating student progress to ensure that all learners are meeting their educational goals. Creating a positive and productive learning environment is crucial. You will establish conditions that promote self-discipline, leadership, and citizenship among students. This includes organizing students effectively for instruction, planning the use of materials and resources, and maintaining accurate student records. Collaboration with peers, administrators, and the community is vital to fulfilling the responsibilities associated with this role, and you will be expected to participate in professional growth opportunities to enhance your teaching practice. The ideal candidate will possess a valid California teaching credential with authorization for Social Science, along with EL Authorization. A Bachelor's degree is required, and previous teaching experience in the subject area is desirable. You will be expected to adhere to the policies and regulations of the Ukiah Unified School District while promoting a positive professional image and maintaining confidentiality in all professional relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively organize and present lessons, maximizing use of instructional time.
  • Use instructional techniques at appropriate levels of difficulty.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the curriculum and subject matter for which the employee is responsible.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Must hold, or be eligible to hold, valid California teaching credential authorizing assignment.
  • Successful completion of student teaching program.
  • Valid CA Credential with proper authorization for Social Science (BCLAD required or ability/desire to obtain BCLAD).
  • EL Authorization.
  • Previous teaching experience in subject area and/or level desirable.
