About the position

The Social Work Manager at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is a leadership role responsible for supervising and developing a team of social work professionals. This position focuses on enhancing individual and team performance through coaching, performance management, and professional development. The manager will also engage in patient and family care concerns, facilitate escalations, and participate in departmental and institution-wide initiatives aimed at improving care and collaboration. The role requires collaboration with medical leadership and oversight of daily operations, ensuring quality and performance improvement in social work practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical supervision and coaching to social work staff, ensuring adherence to professional standards and practices.
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and collaborate with care teams to plan ongoing care for patients and caregivers.
  • Evaluate staffing models to ensure equitable distribution of work across units.
  • Maintain documentation and reporting requirements in compliance with medical-legal standards.
  • Mentor staff in professional conduct and interdisciplinary collaboration during patient care rounds.
  • Utilize performance management systems to monitor and improve staff performance and patient care outcomes.
  • Recruit, orient, and onboard new staff members, ensuring they meet departmental standards.
  • Manage departmental finances and resources, ensuring effective distribution and utilization.
  • Investigate patient and family complaints, providing feedback and developing communication plans to address grievances.
  • Oversee the development of internal and external data dashboards to track performance metrics.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Social Work is required.
  • At least five years of experience in a health system is required.
  • Experience supervising students or staff is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of data systems is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills are required.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders is required.
  • Strong organizational skills and experience managing complex functions are required.
  • Experience handling confidential and sensitive information is required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and basic data management skills are required.
  • Knowledge of EPIC is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment is preferred.
  • Licensed Social Worker (LSW) certification in Pennsylvania is preferred.
