About the position

This non-sworn, full-time position works as a supervisor and is part of the Raleigh Police Department's ACORNS (Addressing Crises through Outreach, Referrals, Networking, and Service) Team. The Social Work Supervisor plays a critical role in overseeing social workers who engage with individuals experiencing homelessness or living with mental illness, utilizing a trauma-informed and strength-based approach in the greater Raleigh area. This position is essential in ensuring that the ACORNS Social Workers collaborate effectively with various stakeholders, including mental health and primary care providers, police agencies, emergency departments, school personnel, and other social service agencies and community partners. The goal is to assist individuals in need and their families in identifying personal goals and creating comprehensive care plans. The Social Work Supervisor is responsible for supervising the outreach services provided by ACORNS Social Workers, which include crisis intervention services, assessments, referrals, and linkages to necessary services. This role involves receiving and reviewing progress reports from social workers, managing caseloads, and ensuring a fair distribution of workloads among team members. The supervisor must document and maintain records in compliance with all agency policies, program procedures, and local, state, and federal regulations. Additionally, the supervisor is expected to complete annual training requirements, attend seminars and educational opportunities to enhance professional skills, and lead meetings and training sessions for recruits and in-service employees. Continuous professional development is emphasized, as the supervisor is expected to stay informed about current research and innovative trends related to homelessness, mental illness, and substance use. The role also includes providing consultation on these issues and advocating for the ethical treatment of all individuals. The ability to work as part of a team and traverse uneven terrain during outreach activities is essential, as is the willingness to perform other duties as required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and work with ACORNS Social Workers to perform outreach services to people needing crisis intervention services, assessment, referral and linkage to needed services.
  • Receive and review social worker progress reports from ACORNS Social Workers.
  • Supervise caseloads for ACORNS Social Workers and ensure fair workload distribution.
  • Document and maintain records in compliance with all agency policies, program procedures and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Complete annual employee training requirements.
  • Attend seminars, training and other educational opportunities to develop professional skills and abilities.
  • Participate, schedule, and lead meetings.
  • Conduct specialized academy training for recruits and in-service training for employees.
  • Continuously review current research and innovative trends for engaging with populations impacted by homelessness, mental illness and substance use.
  • Provide consultation concerning populations in the Raleigh area impacted by homelessness, mental illness and substance use; advocate for the ethical treatment of all individuals.
  • Ability to traverse uneven terrain when responding to encampments or conducting outreach.
  • Perform other duties as required.
