The Social Worker / Counselor I (Behavioral Health Specialist) position at Spring Creek Youth Services is designed to provide supervised onsite mental health services to committed and detained youth in a secure facility. This role is integral to the Division of Youth Services (DYS), which is responsible for the care and supervision of youth committed by the District Court to the custody of the Colorado Department of Human Services. The position focuses on delivering individual, family, or group services that align with the DYS strategic plan and treatment model within a trauma-informed environment. The primary goal is to identify youth needs and develop interventions that mitigate risks and enhance protective factors, ensuring successful reintegration into the community. As a trainee, the individual will be required to have a master's degree in mental health, qualifying as a Social Worker, Counselor, or Marriage and Family Therapist. The role involves delivering supervised clinical services to youths facing complex mental health challenges, trauma, substance abuse, and related issues. The trainee will learn to address criminogenic risk factors and family interventions, gaining insights into criminal behavior in adolescents and how to reduce risks while enhancing protective factors. The position emphasizes a strength-based perspective, systems theory, and trauma-informed care, catering to the needs of committed or detained youths exhibiting behavioral and psychiatric problems stemming from traumatic experiences. The role includes conducting mental health screenings upon a youth's admission, determining eligibility for chronic care services, and referring youth to psychiatric services when necessary. Collaboration with medical personnel is essential to assess the impact of medical conditions on the youth's emotional and psychological well-being. The position utilizes validated tools like the Youth Assessment Screening Instrument (YASI) to address criminogenic risk factors and develop treatment strategies. The Social Worker/Counselor I will also be responsible for creating and executing Individual Growth and Change Plans (IGCP) and chronic care plans in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, ensuring that services are rendered in accordance with DORA regulations and mental health training.
