About the position

The Social Worker IAT position is focused on providing essential child protective services, including assessing and investigating reports of abuse, neglect, or dependency. The role involves thorough assessments of family dynamics, service planning, case management, and crisis intervention. The social worker will primarily engage in supportive and behavioral treatment, utilizing considerable judgment in making recommendations for agency actions regarding the care of children. The position requires on-call duties during nights and weekends to ensure compliance with North Carolina law regarding the assessment of abuse and neglect reports.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, assess, and investigate reports of abuse, neglect, or dependency.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of family dynamics and needs.
  • Develop service plans and manage cases effectively.
  • Provide crisis intervention and ongoing treatment of a supportive and behavioral nature.
  • Make recommendations for agency actions regarding suitable care for children.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for nights and weekends to assess reports of abuse/neglect as mandated by law.
  • Perform fieldwork, primarily in the community.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree from an accredited school of social work; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited school of social work with one year of directly related experience; or a four-year degree in a human services field plus two years of directly related experience; or a four-year college or university degree plus three years of directly related experience.
  • Directly related experience in human services, including case management, assessment, referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho-social therapy, and treatment planning.
  • Valid NC Driver's License and a vehicle in good operating condition.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in child welfare or protective services.
  • Knowledge of governmental and private organizations and resources in the community.
  • Ability to interact and motivate resistant involuntary clients.
