The Social Worker position at the NC Correctional Institution for Women in Raleigh is a critical role that focuses on providing specialized social work case management to female offenders who are dealing with various behavioral, mental, emotional, and physical disorders. This facility houses approximately 1,776 female offenders across different custody levels, and the Social Worker will be responsible for delivering essential services that include individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, preventive measures, community resource referrals, and re-entry planning. The position emphasizes the importance of addressing the unique challenges faced by mothers in prison, as 85% of the women incarcerated are mothers. Therefore, a significant part of the role involves working closely with offenders to assess and address their children's issues and family dynamics. The Social Worker will collaborate with the Department of Social Services across all 100 counties in North Carolina, as well as with other states where the offenders' children may reside. This collaboration extends to contacting ancillary personnel such as school counselors, social workers, group home and foster care staff, and court representatives. The position requires a flexible application of a wide range of social work skills and intervention techniques to manage complex cases effectively. The Social Worker will work full-time, with established hours from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, and may occasionally need to work beyond these hours to meet the needs of the facility and its residents. This role is vital in ensuring that offenders receive the support they need to reintegrate into society successfully and to maintain healthy family relationships during their incarceration.
