About the position

The Social Worker - Pre-petition Screener/Diversion position at Dakota County involves screening applications for civil commitment related to individuals with mental illness and/or substance use disorders. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including hospitals and community resources, to secure the least restrictive alternatives to civil commitment. This position is essential in ensuring the safety of clients and the community while providing case management services.

Responsibilities

  • Screen application for commitment of persons with Mental Illness and/or Substance Use Disorder and provide documentation to the court as required.
  • Assess & Evaluate clients strengths and needs including safety and risk, and develop the least restrictive alternatives to civil commitment that will ensure the safety of the client and of the community.
  • Assess Mental Health & Substance Use Disorder needs, collaborate & coordinate with other community services provides needs and level of services for clients.
  • Represent Dakota County Pre-petition Screening in court.
  • Assess eligibility for mental health targeted case management services.
  • Develop & Implement case planning.
  • Monitor & document compliance to any court orders.
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, and statutes and professional practice.
  • Complete agency, state, and federal required documentation as related to client activity according to mandated timelines.
  • Evaluate document and monitor client progress toward goals.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to support cultural diversity County wide, actively supports the County's inclusion, diversity and equity initiatives, and works to address the needs of diverse and underserved communities.
  • Provide other case management functions as related or assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or related Human Services field of study.
  • One year or more of full-time professional experience.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Must qualify as a Rule 79 Case Manager per MN State Statute 245.462, including a Bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences or related fields and at least 2,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to adults with mental illness.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous work with Serious Persistent Mental Illness population.
  • Fluent in a language other than English.
  • Previous experience with County Social Services agency or contracted case management.
  • Previous experience working with court services.
