About the position

The Social Worker (Program Coordinator) position within the U.S. Veterans Health Administration focuses on providing administrative, technical, and clinical supervision to a team of social workers and support staff. The role involves developing and implementing information systems to track service activities, ensuring quality service delivery to homeless veterans. The incumbent will also be responsible for personnel management, including performance evaluations, training, and compliance with safety regulations, while promoting equal employment opportunities and affirmative action objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Administers information and analytical systems to evaluate and enhance the quality of service provided to patients.
  • Develops and implements information systems to track service activities including visits, referrals, inpatient days, patient demographics, equipment utilization, and patient satisfaction.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates clinical guidelines and protocols to establish appropriate utilization of services.
  • Supervises a group of employees performing work at various GS levels, providing administrative, technical, and clinical supervision.
  • Establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff, communicating them through the formal employee performance management system.
  • Observes worker's performance and conducts work performance critiques, providing informal feedback and evaluating employee performance periodically.
  • Develops work improvement plans and recommends personnel actions as necessary.
  • Provides advice and counsel to workers related to work and administrative matters, and effects disciplinary measures as appropriate.
  • Reviews and approves or disapproves leave requests and ensures subordinates are trained in safety regulations.
  • Performs program analysis, development, review, research, design, and contract work with various agencies.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work.
  • Licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level.
  • One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in social work.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of program coordination and administration, including consultation, negotiation, and monitoring.
  • Ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program.
  • Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, and meeting multiple deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university.
  • Experience in supervising multidisciplinary staff.
