About the position

The Social Worker (Program Coordinator) for the Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) program is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the program, which includes providing treatment to homeless veterans. This role involves supervising program staff, managing outreach activities, and ensuring the quality of care provided to patients. The incumbent will also be involved in administrative tasks, program evaluation, and the development of clinical guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Administer information and analytical systems to evaluate and enhance service quality.
  • Develop and implement information systems to track service activities, referrals, inpatient days, patient demographics, and satisfaction.
  • Supervise a group of employees performing work at various GS levels, providing administrative, technical, and clinical supervision.
  • Establish guidelines and performance expectations for staff, communicating them through the employee performance management system.
  • Provide informal feedback and evaluate employee performance periodically.
  • Resolve informal complaints and grievances, and develop work improvement plans as necessary.
  • Provide advice and counsel to workers related to work and administrative matters.
  • Effect disciplinary measures as appropriate and review leave requests.
  • Ensure subordinates are trained and comply with safety regulations.
  • Provide technical assistance to state, local, and private agencies and universities.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work.
  • Licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level.
  • One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in social work.
  • Demonstrated advanced practice skills and judgment in social work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification or post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university.
  • Experience in program coordination and administration.
