About the position

The Social Worker Program Coordinator (MH RRTP Admissions Coordinator/Compact Act Coordinator) at the Department of Veterans Affairs plays a crucial role in managing the admissions process for the Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MH RRTP). This position involves working closely with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure timely and appropriate admissions for veterans, while also providing ongoing support and coordination of care. The role requires adherence to complex eligibility requirements and effective communication with various stakeholders to promote a veteran-centered approach to care.

Responsibilities

  • Manage MH RRTP admission applications and interviews, ensuring timely reviews by the screening and admissions team.
  • Maintain clinical contact with veterans awaiting admission to the MH RRTP.
  • Coordinate care for veterans, families, and clinical team members, ensuring access to community resources when needed.
  • Serve as a liaison between MH RRTPs, hospital staff, and external resources, including community providers and legal entities.
  • Utilize program coordination skills to develop and monitor administrative and clinical plans for veterans receiving COMPACT Act services.
  • Oversee daily operations of the COMPACT Act program and provide reports to facility, VISN, and VACO as requested.
  • Advocate for veterans to ensure they do not receive bills for COMPACT-related care.
  • Document in the medical record using designated COMPACT Act templates and coding requirements.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work.
  • Licensed or certified to independently practice social work at the master's degree level.
  • One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in social work, demonstrating advanced practice skills and judgment.
  • Knowledge of program coordination and administration, including consultation and monitoring.
  • Ability to write policies, procedures, and practice guidelines for the program.
  • Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, and meeting multiple deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification or post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university.
  • Experience in supervising multidisciplinary staff.
