About the position

The Social Worker (Program Coordinator) for the Veteran Justice Program at the Department of Veterans Affairs is responsible for providing psychosocial assessments, case management services, and continuous quality improvement activities for Veterans involved with the justice system. This role requires advanced knowledge of community, state, and federal services and benefits available to Veterans. The Social Worker will collaborate with court officials, correctional administrators, and other clinicians to ensure effective care and support for Veterans transitioning from correctional institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and provide case management services for Veterans involved in the justice system.
  • Collaborate with judges, court officers, and correctional staff to develop and maintain appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Provide training and guidance to entry-level staff and graduate students.
  • Conduct outreach to assess Veterans involved with the justice system, including those eligible for treatment court programs.
  • Establish relationships with correctional medical and psychiatric personnel to ensure continuity of care for Veterans.
  • Function as an ongoing case manager for justice-involved Veterans, facilitating independent community living.
  • Attend and contribute to various staff meetings and committees as required.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work.
  • Licensed or certified to independently practice social work at the master's degree level.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in social work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with Veterans with justice involvement and familiarity with court and legal systems.
  • Knowledge of VA and community resources for justice-involved Veterans.
