About the position

The STARS Social Worker will provide mental health services to Veterans enrolled in the Substance Treatment and Recovery Services (STARS) within the Columbia VA Health Care System. This role involves high-quality case management, clinical assessment, treatment, advocacy, and coordination of services with other VA or community providers. The incumbent is expected to work independently in a clinical setting and demonstrate entry-level practice skills in social work, with a focus on supporting Veterans and their families.

Responsibilities

• Provide mental health services to assigned Veteran patients enrolled in STARS.
• Conduct clinical assessments and develop treatment plans for Veterans.
• Coordinate linkages to other appropriate VA or community service providers.
• Work collaboratively with other members of the outpatient mental health treatment team.
• Demonstrate entry-level practice skills in social work with less than one year of post-MSW experience.

Requirements

• Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work.
• Licensure or certification to independently practice social work at the master's level (for GS-11 and above).
• Ability to work with Veterans and family members from diverse backgrounds.
• Knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses and treatment procedures.
