About the position

The Social Worker in the Substance Treatment and Recovery Services (STARS) at the Department of Veterans Affairs will provide essential mental health services to Veterans enrolled in the program. This role involves comprehensive case management, clinical assessments, treatment planning, advocacy, and coordination with other VA or community service providers to meet the needs of the patients. The Social Worker will work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to optimize the functional status of Veterans through tailored treatment plans and interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop extensive psychosocial assessments of Veterans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, family members, and significant others.
  • Assist in developing treatment plans based on assessments, determining effective treatment methods consistent with the Veteran's needs.
  • Employ a variety of clinical skills and services to achieve treatment objectives outlined in the treatment plan.
  • Assist in tracking performance measures and outcome measures related to substance use treatment.
  • Make rapid assessments and develop crisis management plans for admissions to mental health inpatient programs.
  • Document all patient care assessments, interventions, and treatment progress in CPRS in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in social work from a CSWE accredited school.
  • Licensure or certification by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level.
  • Ability to work with Veterans and family members from diverse backgrounds using counseling skills.
  • Ability to assess psychosocial functioning and needs of Veterans and formulate treatment plans.
  • Knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities, and treatment procedures.
