About the position

The Fargo VA Health Care System is seeking a full-time Mental Health Counselor to join the Mental Health Integrated Care Community Service at the Minot Community Based Outpatient Clinic. This role is designed for a Social Worker, Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, or Staff Psychologist, focusing on providing comprehensive mental health services to veterans. The position involves assessment, treatment planning, therapy, and advocacy, ensuring that veterans receive the necessary support and resources to enhance their mental health and well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Develop assessments of veterans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team, family members, and significant others.
  • Create treatment plans and set achievable goals with veterans and their families.
  • Provide evidence-based treatment for various mental health disorders.
  • Educate veterans and caregivers about available services and assist in establishing appropriate referrals.
  • Act as an advocate for veterans and their families, fostering independence and empowerment.
  • Conduct crisis interventions and develop management plans for mental health inpatient admissions.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work.
  • Licensure or certification to independently practice social work at the master's degree level is required for GS-11 and above.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
