About the position

The Software and Firmware System Integration Engineer at General Atomics will be responsible for integrating and testing software and firmware with hardware systems. This role involves supporting the design and development of prototype systems, collaborating with engineering teams, and providing technical documentation and presentations. The engineer will also troubleshoot complex engineering problems and interface with customers during various stages of system development.

Responsibilities

  • Perform integration and testing of software and firmware with hardware in the loop and fully integrated systems.
  • Support design and development of prototype systems through design, integration, and test.
  • Provide adaptable support to the systems engineering organization, including direct program systems engineering support and proposal development.
  • Develop plans and procedures for integration and test.
  • Collaborate with program and engineering staff on design, integration, and test matters.
  • Support program design and readiness reviews.
  • Document problems and support the operation of engineering systems.
  • Support internal development and new business opportunities.
  • Resolve unusual or complex engineering problems with new approaches.
  • Troubleshoot assembly and integration issues, including resolving requirements with testability issues.
  • Provide documentation and make technical presentations as required.
  • Represent the organization as the prime technical contact on small contracts or single component projects.
  • Interface with customers during design development, assembly, integration, verification, and validation of the program.
  • Provide direction to design or technical staff and may lead a team of moderately experienced professionals.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Observe all laws, regulations, and obligations while conducting business.

Requirements

  • Experience with assembly, integration, and test for space payloads.
  • Software or firmware development and/or integration background with development and prototype systems.
  • Experience with communication protocols such as RS422, I2C, GigE, SPI, TCP, UDP, etc.
  • Experience in developing in Python, C, C++, and/or MATLAB languages.
  • Experience with working on Linux-based systems.
  • Understanding of integration techniques and considerations, with the ability to assist or perform functional testing and data capture.
  • Extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice.
  • Experience developing assembly, integration, and test plans and procedures for verification and validation.
  • Ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in an evolving environment.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills for effective interface with other departments and professionals.
  • Customer-focused with innovative design development capabilities.
  • Familiarity with digital engineering and toolsets including SysML-based enterprise and performance evaluation tools.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, with flexibility for extended hours.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret and/or Top Secret clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in design development of optical and/or laser systems.
  • Experience working with MagicDraw, DOORS, Confluence, Teams, and JIRA.
  • Experience as an Integrated Product Team Lead.
  • Prototype development experience.
  • Professional Engineering License or published works in professional engineering journals.
  • Previous experience working with the Department of Defense.
