About the position

The Software Applications Developer III (ORACLE PL SQL) at Texas A&M University serves as a technical lead for specific software development projects or services. This role involves providing technical oversight to ensure compliance with established technical standards and coordinating the technical activities of a software development project team. The developer will be responsible for completing various reports and summaries for management and users, including project status reports, problem reports, and progress summaries. This position requires a strong commitment to quality assurance and adherence to programming standards within the application. In this role, the developer will engage in system analysis to research and analyze business and technical problems faced by Student Business Services, designing and recommending technical solutions. The position also involves application development, where the developer will create complex database modules and interfaces, utilizing personal judgment and decision-making skills. The developer will conduct application design, maintain Accounts Receivable database information, and perform impact analyses of changes in processes. Additionally, the developer will work closely with the database administrator to aid in database development and design, upgrade current database processes, and analyze existing data structures to identify inefficiencies. The role includes determining scope development by collaborating with clients and functional analysts to establish automation specifications and develop detailed system design documents for client approval. The developer will also be responsible for software documentation, serving as the software lead in peer reviews of custom Accounts Receivable code, and providing necessary system documentation processes required by Student Business Services. This position may require participation in training and professional development opportunities as they arise.

Responsibilities

  • Research and analyze business and technical problems faced by Student Business Services and design, recommend, and implement technical solutions.
  • Develop complex and complicated database modules and interfaces as part of application development.
  • Provide quality assurance to ensure system standards are followed and programming standards are adhered to.
  • Create and maintain Accounts Receivable database information for billing, refunding, and reporting; conduct impact analysis of process changes.
  • Aid in database development and design, upgrade current database processes, and analyze existing data structures for inefficiencies.
  • Work with clients and functional analysts to determine automation specifications and develop detailed system design documents for approval.
  • Analyze, design, develop, and maintain software applications and database system changes to automate and redesign business processes.
  • Serve as software lead in peer reviews of custom Accounts Receivable code and provide necessary system documentation processes.
  • Coordinate the technical activities of a project team and complete reports and summaries for management and users, including status reports and system utilization reports.
  • Participate in training and professional development as available.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years of software applications developer experience.
  • Pass a test on knowledge of programming using SQL and PL/SQL.
  • Skill and knowledge in applying solutions to problems through the design and development of computer programs, software, and applications.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication with both business users and IT professionals.
  • Ability to work independently to meet deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy, professionalism, and customer service orientation.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
